About sundiata

Sundiata is a statement of independence. It’s the first time in 10 years I’ve owned my own music. It’s a collection of ideas, wits & wisdoms fashioned by the fire of personal struggle. The name is derived from Sundiata Keita, the 13th-century founder of the Mali Empire in West Africa & the predecessor to Mansa Musa.

I am the griot. I am the mouth of the past...I teach kings the history of their ancestors so that the lives of the ancients may serve them as an example, for the world is old, but the future springs from the past. The griot does not know how to lie. The griot is the repository of the knowledge of a people.

About the Collection

Just like the music, this collection was created with an independent spirit. I personally designed, sourced and developed each item with local teams and businesses across Los Angeles, Chicago and Lagos.
